Team Player

With the very recent launch of Microsoft’s Zune and its related e-store, I find this quote from Bill Gates regarding DRM schemes to be completely mindblowing:

“People should just buy a cd and rip it. You are legal then.”

Nothing like totally undercutting your most recent product by in essence saying “Hey, I know we’ve got this new mp3 player thingy that has the strategy of people sharing music (generate buzz) enough so that they go to our store and buy it, but hey, that was a dumb idea anyway. You should just drive over to Target or your local music store and buy the actual CD then rip it to our player.”
