Although I don’t play in a band anymore, I still like to plunk around with my guitars, whether they’re in my office or on my living room wall.
Recently, I’ve been inspired to mess around with my strat again and make some simple changes. About a year ago I added a mute button with the help of my friend Sean Patrick. Actually Sean added it. I handed him the parts.
The latest change is from the stock black pickguard to one that’s clear acrylic. I’ve always found the inside of my guitar more visually interesting than the shiny exterior. I managed to do this one myself. Not without some collateral damage, of course. If you look really close between the exposed knobs and the pickup selector you’ll see a hole with a spider web crack (follow the white wire to the right and you’ll see it). I tried to drill through the pickguard to create a hole for the mute button but pushed on it a little too hard. DOH! I would like to replace that pickguard when I have the time…
The guitar has a Hot Rails pickup in the bridge, standard Fender strat single coils in middle and neck, a clear pickguard and neck from StewMac, “Electric” sticker on headstock from Ford’s first Electric vehicle program, and an elastic strap made in Germany by a company called “No. 1″. The tone pots and pickup selector are stock Fender parts minus the plastic caps (I took them off).
